Our Story

Proudly Kiwi

 

Rama Clothing Limited is a luxury New Zealand clothing line designed for all Kiwis who deserve high-end apparel that makes them feel unique. All while giving a sense of belonging through the shared experience of a creative depiction of their heritage.

Our purpose

 

New Zealand is one of the most ethnically diverse countries in the world. We have more than 200 different ethnicities within our communities and a quarter of all people who call New Zealand home were born overseas. As a reflection of this diversity, Rama draws it's meaning and core values from different ethnic groups that form a part of the New Zealand identity.

 

In Maori, Rama means "light". Light allows us to see and understand our surrounding world. This reflects our value of having an understanding of our identity.

In Reiki, an ancient healing practice, Rama symbolises "staying grounded" and "maintaining a balance". This reflects our value of staying true to our roots and striving to maintain a balance in life. 

​

In Hinduism, Rama is the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who was born on earth to show mankind "righteous living" and seen as a hero. This reflects our value of having a simple way of life filled with elegance, being the every day hero in the life of people we touch and doing the right thing.

 

As a local luxury brand in New Zealand, we're committed to being on par with well-known international luxury brands in every way, from customer service to craftsmanship. All while embodying the meanings of Rama into our designs, drawing light to our diverse culture, and maintaining a balance between high-end and staying grounded in our roots and true self.

 

By providing you with first-class service and authentic designs that have a proudly local vibe whilst also being elegant, we strive to challenge the perception of local fashion as being inferior.

Be classy every time

 

For our first clothing collection, which we named the Classic Kiwi Collection, we designed a jumper that has the words “yeahnah” embossed on it to express the laid-back nature of New Zealanders, and sitting on top of it is a kiwi. Kiwis are known for constantly having their head down and having tall poppy syndrome, but our design of a kiwi has its head raised to portray the pride that New Zealanders should have in themselves. This first piece in our collection is available in lite and dark colours with the tagline "Be Classy Every Time." Because we want all kiwis wearing our luxurious New Zealand clothing line to always look and feel simply elegant.

Care for our environment

In line with our value of doing the right thing, we strive to be environmentally friendly in our approaches.

From clothing to packaging, we work with suppliers who source their material in an environmentally friendly manner.

 

Environmental protection cotton emphasises non-pollution in the planting process, and makes use of biological control of plant diseases and insect pests, without using any chemical fertilizers, chemical pesticides and any other chemical products, so as to realise the whole process of sowing, growth, maturity, picking, preservation and transportation of all natural and non-chemical pollution, and ensure the non-pollution and non-toxicity of cotton and the sustainable reclamation of cultivated land.

Our packaging suppliers conform to Forest Stewardship Council Standards and participate in sustainable forestry approaches for sourcing their raw materials.

​

In addition to our environmentally aware approach to all our product, we have decided to take responsibility for our impact on Earth by reducing and off setting our emissions. To do so, we work with ON A MISSION, a non-profit organisation based in Switzerland who enables businesses and individuals to invest in carefully selected sustainable reforestation projects to offset their carbon emissions. We want to leave behind a better world for generations to come

We want to do our part by being ahead of climate regulation and taxes. We are proud to join a network of ambitious and pioneer businesses committed to invest in a solution with the greatest impact for our climate and future. Reforestation is the most effective solution to capture CO2 and solve climate change.
